This procedure is perhaps the best known method for creating larger buttocks. Our plastic surgeons combine liposuction with lipofilling to get your buttocks in perfect shape. Multiple treatments can be carried out during surgery, to get the end to your liking. Many of our patients choose for example to combine a butt lift with improving the contours of their lower back and waist.

What happens during the surgery

We would like to give you an idea of what happens during a lipofilling procedure. The surgeon sucks fat out of the area you have determined. That fat is then filtered so that it is suitable for injecting into your buttocks. That is done in several layers for a fuller shape.

This may sound quite simple, but this procedure is quite a complex process. Fortunately, our plastic surgeons are widely experienced in performing this treatment. You will be given, should it be necessary, during the procedure, a drainage to drain off excess lymph fluid.

The whole procedure takes on average 2-5 hours and takes place under general anesthesia, which means it is also possible to improve other parts of the body during lipofilling.

Your body will obviously need to recover after the surgery. The fat cells that have been transferred to the buttocks need time to heal and develop a new blood supply. We will provide you with specialized clothing after the treatment, that puts pressure on the right places and promotes the recovery process.

The result of lipofilling

In short: nicer, rounder, fuller buttocks! Part of the injected fat will be absorbed by your body in a natural way and will disappear. To take this into account, the surgeon injects a little more fat into your buttocks. This means your buttocks will at first look a little bigger than you might have expected. The end result will be visible after 3 to 6 months. How long your new buttocks stay beautiful partly depends on the aftercare you apply. The better you follow our aftercare advice, the better the result. Your health, future pregnancies and weight fluctuations can also effect your buttocks.

Recovery after lipofilling

We will do everything we can to help your body recover as quickly as possible. You will be given a supportive compression garment immediately after surgery . This will keep your body in the desired shape and will prevent excessive swelling. Swelling usually decreases after the first week. Bruises are also normal and usually disappear after surgery. Depending on how heavy the surgery is, you may have to spend a night in hospital for observation.

In most cases, you can return to work after about a week and a half. The compression garment should still be worn, preferably under loose-fitting clothing. Keep in mind that after one week and a half, it is not yet possible to sit for a long period of time (see also the sitting protocol). You should sleep on your stomach for two weeks after the procedure, so that there is as little pressure on your buttocks as possible. After that, you may alternately sleep on your side, but not yet on your back. A normal sitting and sleeping pattern is normally possible after 6 weeks. Check up

Of course we will keep a close eye on your recovery. The first check-up takes place after 1 or 2 days. The next check-up is by appointment, about 3 weeks after the surgery.

What happens during a buttock enlargement with implants.

Surgery can interrupt normal lymph flow, causing lymph fluid to build up in a specific area of the body, often in the arms or legs, where it can cause swelling. Therefore, after a liposuction treatment, it is necessary to perform drainage/lymphatic massages.

During a lymphatic massage, our experienced massage therapist uses a series of sliding, pressing and cupping movements over the body. The movements stimulate the lymphatic system without compressing the blood vessels, thereby draining the excess lymphatic fluid from the liposuction.

While you may have heard of people intentionally gaining weight so that they have more available fat to transfer to their buttocks, we certainly do not recommend this. If you gain weight prior to your Brazilian Butt Lift, you will need to maintain that weight gain post-surgery if you want to keep your results. This is because when we lose weight, we do not lose fat cells in one particular area. Instead, our fat cells all over our bodies actually shrink.

It is best to have this surgery when you have your ideal or preferred body weight because a consistent weight allows your plastic surgeon to best determine the amount of fat that needs to be harvested and injected into your buttocks. In other words, having an extra 10 kilos does not mean you will get better results during the surgery.

If you are interested in the liposuction/lipofilling procedure but feel anxious that you might not have sufficient body fat for a great result, do not attempt to gain excess weight before meeting with your plastic surgeon. Keep in mind that the amount of fat required for a flattering lipofilling result depends on the size of the patient, as it should be proportionate to your body. E.g. smaller women need less fat to reshape their body while larger women need relatively more. Make sure to consult with a professional to determine if your weight is suitable for you to achieve your goals with liposuction/lipofilling.
