Mommy makeover

About Mommy makeover

The name says it all. Motherhood is one of the most beautiful things a woman can experience. Unfortunately, it often goes hand in hand with hormonal and body changes due to pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding. Many women barely dare look in the mirror after having children because they no longer recognize themselves. Does this ring a bell? And do you want to get back into shape in life? Essential Aesthetics will help you so that you can look in the mirror with pride. A radiant outer appearance immediately affects our inner self and we deserve to shine. Motherhood is beautiful, but it can also demand a lot of us women. A mommy makeover can, with one and sometimes two surgeries, help you regain balance between your inner and outer self. Yes, we can be Mothers and feel good about ourselves.

Excellence through international cooperation

If you choose for our clinic, you choose for innovation and proven advice. We work together with experienced Dutch surgeons, but also make use of international innovations and techniques. You will be guided by certified experience experts and surgeons trained abroad who are happy to offer their knowledge and skills in the Netherlands. This way Essential Aesthetics can help you with a mommy makeover, with the same techniques offered abroad, with expertise, knowledge and Dutch safety, but without the risks and long journeys.

What happens with a mommy makeover

A mommy makeover is a combination of treatments. Often:

  • Liposuction and lipofilling;
  • Abdominoplasty;
  • Breast correction and
  • Breast lift.

This means that in one or maybe two times you'll feel great about your body! During a personal consultation, a plastic surgeon will look together with you at which combination of procedures is most suitable for you. Have a look at the information here on the various treatments you have in mind.

If you are ready for the next step in your journey to greater self-confidence and radiant motherhood, book an appointment for a no-obligation consultation with the plastic surgeon. Our experienced international surgeons are accustomed to performing extensive surgeries in a safe and innovative way and will be happy to hear you and explain the possibilities.

The cost of a mommy make-over depends on the combination of surgeries that are performed. On average they cost around 9,000 euros. Ask the surgeon or a member of the care team for an estimate based on what you would like to achieve.

Tummy tuck (abdominoplasty)

Many men and women wish for a tighter or flatter stomach because indeed the belly is a problem zone. We start off in life with a flatter belly, but the older we get, the more effort it takes to keep it flat. Wearing a bikini starts to be an issue. Skin ageing, weight loss, but also pregnancies can cause the stomach skin to start hanging, no matter how many ab exercises you do. Sometimes unfortunately surgery is the only way to get rid of that flabby belly. A tummy tuck can be the solution to remove the loose skin. Never want to have to hide your stomach again? That is possible, with the right surgery and our surgeon can help you. One of the domains of expertise of our international expert, is suturing. It is customary to only suture the upper skin layer. Our surgeon however attaches value to a beautiful scar that is as inconspicuous as possible. He achieves this by suturing each layer of skin, ensuring less scarring.

A tummy tuck is often performed in combination with other treatments such as sucking up or cutting away excess fat. The surgeon will look at the possibilities you are interested in and will advise you on which combination would deliver the best result.

A mini tummy tuck or a total tummy tuck can give you that tighter and flatter tummy.

What happens during a tummy tuck?

The difference is already clearly visible straight after the operation. The final result is attained 3 to 6 months later once the body is fully recovered. If there are no drastic changes such as pregnancy or strong fluctuations in weight, the result is usually permanent. Discuss your expectations with the surgeon to see what the results will be and avoid disappointments. The best results are achieved when you are at your target weight. A tummy tuck is not a means to lose weight, it may sometimes be necessary to lose weight first, before the operation.

Recovery after tummy tuck

Depending on how extensive the operation is, it may be necessary to stay in the hospital for 1 to 2 days. Sometimes a drain is placed to drain excess fluid. Our patients often comment that the pain is not that bad. The area is sensitive after the operation and you will probably experience some pain which can be relieved with analgesic medication. Avoid (in as far as possible) coughing and sneezing, because the added pressure on the zones which were operated on will increase the pain. For best results it is important that you wear a supportive corset for 4 weeks, 24 hours a day. This will support the operated area, prevent excessive swelling and speed up your recovery. After 4 weeks you will only need the corset during the day and will no longer need it at all after 8 weeks. The treated area will be red and swollen immediately after the operation and there is often bruising. Most people can return to normal work after 2 weeks, check with your surgeon. It will take 6 weeks before you can resume any heavy, demanding work.

Safety through precautionary measures

You will receive, well before your operation, a document with patient information, detailing general national advice. The surgeon will also give you personalized advice based on the scale of the tummy tuck and your general health status. Below is a short summary of the general advice. It is important to take it into account for the best result.

Before the surgery:

  • Stop smoking four weeks before the operation
  • Start taking Arnica drops two weeks in advance to reduce bruising and swelling.
  • If you are taking medication such as Marcoumar, Sintrom/Sintrommitis or Asprocardio, consult your surgeon, the same applies to Aspirin or painkillers with aspirin such as Advil, Diclofenac and others.
  • Do not use blood thinning medication before surgery.
  • Do not forget to arrange transportation home, even if you are staying the night. Driving yourself after the operation is not allowed.
  • Arrange for someone to help you in your home for the first few days.

The day of the operation:

  • Take a shower or a bath, after the operation you are not allowed to shower for up to 72 hours.
  • Do not use body lotion or cream
  • Wear easy and loose-fitting clothes
  • Don't forget to take your corset to the O.R.
  • Do not wear jewellery, watches or piercings
  • Do not eat or drink anything in the 8 hours before the operation.
  • Make sure you are rested and on time

After the surgery:

  • Make sure you're not home alone for the first few days.
  • Preferably rest on your back.
  • Keep the blood circulation active by walking around every hour. This promotes wound healing.
  • Do not shower until 72 hours after the tummy tuck, ask the surgeon or the care team for advice.
  • During the first three weeks after the tummy tuck, make sure that you do not push, lift or bend.
  • Try to avoid sneezing, coughing and laughing.
  • Work is possible after about a week and a half, but only if it involves moderate to light physical exertion.
  • Resuming sports is generally possible on average six weeks after the operation, in consultation with the surgeon.
  • Do not drive in the first period (car, motorcycle, etc.).

Risks and complications

There are risks and complications associated with every operation. A tummy tuck is a major operation, which means there is a greater risk of complications than with smaller operations. Think carefully in advance about the pros and cons and read up on the risks and possible complications:

  • Allergic reaction to the agents used
  • Infection (1-2%)
  • Poor wound healing
  • Numbness in the area operated on
  • Longer pain than expected
  • Excessive scarring
