Eyelid correction above

The plastic surgeon removes excess skin and sometimes excess subcutaneous fat tissue by making an incision in the skin fold of the upper eyelid, making the scar that remains after surgery almost invisible.
Sometimes an eyelid correction at the top is combined with an eyelid correction at the bottom.

Eyelid correction underneath and puffiness elimination

An eyelid correction underneath can mean a world of difference. By removing excess skin or a fat pocket (puff), you look much more rested. This is done with an incision just below the lower lash line. The excess skin is cut away, then the fat pocket is removed and moved, creating a rested, younger look after the operation. The wound is sutured just below the lower lash line, making the scar almost invisible.

Eyelid correction underneath with lateral eyelid tightening

Sometimes an eyelid correction alone is not enough. Our surgeon will advise you in advance about the possibilities. For example, it is possible to tighten the lower eyelid (canthopexy).

All three eyelid corrections mentioned above give a nice natural result, with almost invisible scars. Make an appointment for a consultation with our surgeon so that he can tell you which operation best suits your needs.

Eyelid correction recovery

After an eyelid correction under local anaesthetic, you can go home after a check-up, already after half an hour.

After an eyelid correction under general anaesthesia (anaesthesia), you may go home after three to four hours. We advise you to start at home with easily digestible foods such as water, tea and rusk.

Don't forget to cool the eyes properly. This reduces the swelling and bruising. The recovery period is about two to three weeks. Only after 12 weeks the swelling has completely disappeared, the scars have healed and the end result is clearly visible. This period varies from person to person. Please read our post-surgery advice again carefully.

Napin doesn't have to

After the eyelid correction, most patients feel almost no pain. However, some patients suffer from burning eyes. It is allowed to take 1000 mg paracetamol four times a day. The plasters reduce the pull of the eyes and may remain in place.

After the treatment the skin around the eyes feels a bit tight. Small swellings and bruises are normal. You may suffer from irritated eyes and blurred vision for several weeks. This is not something you have to worry about, but a natural reaction of the body.

After-checks

There are three to four follow-up checks depending on your healing:

The first post check-up is after three or four days to determine whether the plasters can be removed. The second post check-up is after one week at the plastic surgeon's. During this post check-up, the stitches are removed. The third and final post check-up is after about six weeks. The surgeon checks whether the wounds have healed properly and whether the eyelid correction has been successful. If a fourth post check-up is necessary, the last post check-up is three months after the operation at the plastic surgeon's. Our care team will not only help you with your preparations and during your consultation with the surgeon, but will also guide you after the operation, so that you know what to expect and heal as well and as quickly as possible. You will receive a document with patient information well in advance of the operation, containing the national advice. The surgeon and the care team will give you advice that is specific to you.

The best result is obtained by taking the following advice into account:

  • Stop smoking four weeks before the operation
