Fat removal with liposuction

At Essential Aesthetics, we specialise in liposuction, fat aspiration, and dermolipectomy, fat cutting. In addition to liposuction, there is now LipoSculpting, an even more sophisticated liposuction technique. If you are considering liposuction, read on!

Sometimes you can't always achieve the desired effect with training. And if you can, you may not have the time or feel like it. Liposuction can then be an option. Please note, liposuction is not a means of losing weight, but it can help you get rid of local excess fat, such as abdominal fat.

Many women suffer from stacking fat around the hips, thighs, abdomen and upper arms. Especially when a woman has been pregnant, the body can change a lot under the influence of hormones. Men suffer more often from stacking fat around the abdomen, stomach and neck area. But also on the knees, in the face, around the ankles, back and buttocks, stacking fat can be difficult to train away. Liposuction can then be the ideal solution. Sometimes fat also has to be cut away to achieve the best result (dermolipectomy), as is often done when treating cellulite.

What happens with liposuction

When you are considering liposuction, the doctor will first discuss the different possibilities with you. No two bodies are the same and not all wishes are actually achievable. When our specialist has gone through all the possibilities and you choose a treatment, we will schedule an appointment as soon as possible.

Immediately before the procedure, the doctor marks the places on your body where fat will be removed. The procedure almost always takes place under general anaesthesia. The excess fat is removed via thin incisions with a narrow cannula (tube). After the procedure, the incisions are sutured or connected.

The final result is visible after three to four months. You yourself can influence the result of the procedure to provide good aftercare.

The duration of the operation depends on the amount of fat removed. When several treatments are performed at the same time, an operation may take longer. The cost of the operation is related to the duration of the operation. The surgeon can often indicate the duration of the operation in advance.

Result liposuction

The end result depends on a number of factors, in which you yourself play an important role.

As mentioned before, liposuction is not a way to lose a lot of weight. The amount of fat that can be removed is limited, so it is not a treatment for obesity. The surgeon decides together with you how much fat can be removed. For your own safety, this is never more than 2.25 kilos.

The result of abdominal liposuction is fully visible after 6 to 9 months. After this period, your body contours are permanent, provided you stay on weight. Sometimes the body contours are not completely symmetrical. Don't worry, no body is completely symmetrical and in most cases subtle asymmetry is not noticeable at all. If there are excessive inequalities, a second operation may be necessary to achieve the desired result.

The better you take care of your body, the longer the result will last. Your health, future pregnancies and weight fluctuations will of course also have an effect on the duration of the result.

Recovery after liposuction

How quickly you recover depends on the treated area. In some cases, when suturing the wound, a drain is inserted to drain the wound fluid and blood. This drain can remain in place for several days, depending on the treated area. How long you have to stay in the hospital after the procedure depends on the duration of the procedure and whether you have been treated under general or local anaesthesia. Our care team can give you an estimate in advance. Of course, the surgeon will go through the recovery period with you.

After the operation you will suffer from bruising, swelling and a general feeling of pain for a number of weeks. If you have had a minor operation, you often have enough paracetamol. If this doesn't work sufficiently, the surgeon can prescribe you heavier pain medication.

In addition, you will temporarily have to wear an elastic corset. This reduces and prevents swelling, keeps the skin in place and gives the treated area the rest it needs to recover successfully. After the operation you can make an appointment immediately to have the stitches removed. Depending on the operation, we recommend that you do not bend or lift much for the first 6 to 12 weeks. You can start working again after about a week, depending on the type of work you are doing. Always consult your doctor.

Safety by precaution

Veiligheid door voorzorgsmaatregelen
Once you have decided to undergo liposuction, we will provide you with a patient information document. Please read this carefully. In addition to general advice, the doctor will provide you with advice that is specific to you and based on your health and living conditions. Below we summarise a number of general advice.

Before the surgery:

  • Stop smoking four weeks before surgery. Also, do not smoke for at least two weeks after surgery. Smoking slows wound healing and increases the risk of infection.
  • Start taking Arnica drops two weeks before the operation. Use the drops until two weeks after the operation. This reduces the burden of bruising and swelling.
  • If you are taking Marcoumar, Sintrom/Sintrommitis, Asprocardio or similar medications, you should discuss with your surgeon whether you can temporarily stop using these medications. This also applies when taking Aspirin or painkillers with aspirin such as Advil, Diclofenac, etc. During the period around the operation, you can use painkillers such as Paracetamol and Panadol.
  • Don't take blood thinning medication before surgery.
  • Don't forget to arrange your transport home. Driving yourself is not possible after the operation and forbidden.
  • Make sure that you are not alone for the first few nights after the operation. Also make sure that someone is available to help you in your home for the first few days.
  • Don't forget to give us your measurements and details for the compression garment. We recommend that you buy two pieces of clothing, this is for your own comfort and hygiene.

The day of the operation:

  • Do not wear jewelry, watches or piercings. The clinic is not liable for loss and / or theft.
  • Make sure you don't eat or drink anything 8 hours before the operation.
  • Let your supervisor know at what time you can be picked up. The doctor can give you an estimate of the time. Usually you will stay in the hospital for a few hours after the operation and in some cases it is wise to spend the night in the hospital.

After the surgery:

    • After the procedure you will be given a piece of clothing that will ensure that the correct pressure is applied to your body so that swelling is reduced and your body remains in the correct shape. Wear your compression garment for as long as the doctor advises. This is on average six weeks.
    • Liposuction in most cases is a day treatment. A few hours after the operation, your attendant can take you home.
    • Keep in mind that you will not be able to work in the first week after the operation. If you have physically strenuous work, it may take longer before you can get back to work. Always consult your doctor.
    • Keep moving! Movement helps to reduce swelling and stimulates blood circulation.
    • Sports are not recommended for the first 6 weeks after surgery.

Risks and complications

There are risks associated with every operation. Although it is almost non-existent, it is important to consider the following complications:

  • Poor wound healing.
  • (Temporary) Swelling or hardening of the skin.
  • Asymmetry of the abdomen.
  • (Temporary) numbness of the skin.

Most complications can be prevented by carefully reviewing and applying the pre- and after-care advice.

Our care team not only helps you in advance during the preparations and during the consultation with the surgeon, but also guides you after the operation, so that you know what to expect and heals as well and as quickly as possible.

If you have thought everything through and would like to start your journey to more self-confidence and a more beautiful body, make an appointment for a no-obligation consultation.

The counselling interview

The first step towards an appearance that suits you better is a consultation with our plastic surgeon. This conversation is, of course, entirely free of obligation. The surgeon listens to your wishes and expectations and then looks at the different possibilities together with you. Because every body is different, it is important that the surgeon can look at the body area that you are considering adjusting. A physical examination may therefore be necessary. Keep this in mind and put on comfortable clothing.

If you have photos or pictures of your dream body, please take them to the interview and show them to the surgeon, who will be able to give you specific advice and tell you if your expectations are realistic.

The surgeon will also ask you about your health and medical history. Give as much accurate information as possible, this is important for your own safety. The surgeon will honestly tell you if he thinks it is wise to perform the desired procedure and will go through it with you. Also take the opportunity to ask about other treatments or wishes you have. Our surgeons can always give you more information about other treatments.

Feel free to do follow-up research and read in well in advance, for example via the Internet.

Once you have decided which treatments you would like to receive, our care team will give you a quote for the treatment. It is usually possible to make an appointment for the operation immediately after the consultation. If you decide to take the next step in your journey to a more beautiful appearance, you will receive all the important information.

Of course you don't have to decide right away if you want to receive treatment. Think about it calmly and well. When you're ready, our experts will be happy to help you!

If you have any questions after the consultation, our care team will be happy to answer them. Feel free to call, email or app us. We will be happy to guide you on your journey to a more beautiful appearance.

Liposuction abdomen

One of the most popular liposuction procedures is abdominal liposuction.
When you undergo abdominal liposuction, the surgeon will mark the area on your abdomen that needs to be corrected.

During the operation, incisions are made in inconspicuous places in your abdomen. Fluid is injected here, which causes the fat to come loose from the skin. The doctor then sucks the fat away, using a small hollow needle. When the surgeon is satisfied with the result, he sutures the small incisions. The procedure takes an average of 1 to 2.5 hours.

Dermolipectomy abdomen

In a dermolipectomy the fat is removed in a different way than in liposuction. In a dermolipectomy the fat is not sucked away but subcutaneous fat tissue is cut away. The incisions made for this purpose are larger than those in a liposuction treatment. This results in larger scars. Of course, the surgeon always tries to make the incisions in an inconspicuous place and sutures the wound with soluble sutures. This procedure is often combined with liposuction.

Both Dermolipectomy and abdominal liposuction take place under general anaesthesia. The duration of the operation depends on the amount of fat removed. When several treatments are performed at the same time, an operation may take longer. The cost of the operation depends on the duration of the operation. The surgeon can often indicate the duration of the operation in advance.

Liposuction buttocks

Recently, one of the most innovative fat removal treatments is also possible in the Netherlands: Liposculpting. This South American treatment method can be performed in a safe and controlled way, so it is no longer necessary to travel abroad for this effective treatment. Liposculpting Liposculpting takes body contouring to the next level and is a very popular technique abroad.

Essential Aesthetics works together with an international experience expert (read more about our international doctorsDr. Luca Piombino. Dr. Piombino has been trained in South America and specializes, among other things, in body contouring with liposuction and lipofilling.

His innate sense of aesthetic beauty, his desire for perfection and his eye for detail ensure the best results with Liposculpting.

What is liposculpture?

What exactly is Liposculpting? Liposuction is a procedure in which local, unwanted fat is sucked away with a cannula. This fat can, after filtering, possibly be applied to other places in the body. In this way, the surgeon can adjust your body contours completely to your wishes. The innovative techniques and equipment, ensure a more refined result.

The results of liposuction and lipofilling are already beautiful, but the results of Liposculpting go a step further. Liposculpting is the Mercedes among liposuction treatments. Liposculpting is mainly performed with a single needle, which allows the surgeon to work more accurately and has more control over the result. The surgeon can work like a real artist to define the most perfect body shape, and treat every inch by hand. This takes more time, patience and expertise.
