Liposuction

Feeling good in your skin has a literal meaning

Harmony and balance between body and mind
is precious and is radiated out through you

At Essential Aesthetics in The Hague we specialise in liposuction, fat aspiration, and dermolipectomy, fat cutting.

Sometimes, try as we do (when we manage to find energy and time), physical training does not bring the result we had hoped for. Liposuction can then be an option. Please note however that liposuction is not a means of losing weight, but it can help you get rid of local excess fat, such as abdominal fat.

Many women suffer from a stacking of fat around the hips, thighs, abdomen and upper arms. This is particularly true after pregnancy due to the influence of hormones, or also in menopause. For men, the stacking is mostly around the abdomen, stomach and neck area. But also on the knees, in the face, around the ankles, back and buttocks, and this accumulation of fat can be difficult to train away. Liposuction can then be the ideal solution. Sometimes fat also has to be cut away to achieve the best result (dermolipectomy), as is often done when treating cellulite.

For optimal results, BodyTite is the ideal treatment in combination with liposuction: this tightens the skin by up to 45%.

Why choose for Essential Aesthetics?

Safety & quality mark
Your safety is crucial to us. Essential Aesthetics is therefore proud to have ISO-9001 and NEN-8009 quality marks. This means that we meet international requirements for quality, safety and care. In addition, this certification emphasises the importance of the wishes of our patients and of our commitment to continuous improvement.

Your trust is the heart of our clinic
The standard of Essential Aesthetics is that the most precious asset that you place in our hands is treated with respect and dedication. Our team understands that surgery is a big step that has not only a physical, but also an emotional impact. We therefore do our utmost to support you in this as well as possible.

Excellence is our norm
The combination of international surgeons and the sharing of knowledge and experience enables us to deliver a high level of aesthetic surgery. The team of Essential Aesthetics always strives for the highest achievable and shows this through great involvement and striving for excellent results. Our surgeons have a heart for people and for everyone’s personal and natural beauty.

Unlimited pre- and post care
Essential Aesthetics is known for excellent before and after care. During the consultations we take the time to listen carefully to your questions and wishes. Our personal attention and warm approach makes you feel at home. Even after the procedure, our medical team will offer you the necessary care.

What happens during a liposuction

When considering liposuction, the doctor will first discuss the different possibilities with you. No two bodies are the same and not all our wishes are actually achievable. Once our specialist has explained the options and you choose a treatment, we will schedule an appointment as soon as possible.

Immediately before the procedure, the doctor marks the places on your body where fat will be removed. The procedure almost always takes place under general anesthesia. The excess fat is removed via thin incisions with a narrow cannula (tube). The incisions are then sutured or connected.

The final result is visible after three to four months and you can influence this result by following the aftercare properly.

How long the surgery takes depends on the amount of fat removed. When several treatments are carried out at the same time, it might take longer. The cost of the surgery is related to the length of the surgery. The surgeon can often indicate how long the surgery will take, in advance.

Are you looking for a more refined result? You will achieve this with Liposculpture. Essential Aesthetics is one of the few clinics in the Netherlands that offers this special technique, which lifts liposuction to a higher level. We have a plastic surgeon in our team, specialized in Liposculpting, who trained in South America. He has a fantastic eye for detail and uses this method to create even more beautiful shapes and contours.

Liposuction result

The end result depends on a number of factors, in which you yourself play an important role.

Liposuction, as mentioned before, is not a means to lose a lot of weight. The amount of fat that can be removed is limited, hence it is not a treatment for obesity. The surgeon will decide together with you how much fat can be removed, knowing that for your own safety, it never exceeds 2.25 kilos.

The result of abdominal liposuction is fully visible after 6 to 9 months. Your body contours will then be permanent, provided you maintain your weight. Sometimes the body contours are not completely symmetrical. Don’t worry, no body is completely symmetrical and in most cases subtle asymmetry is not noticeable at all. If there are excessive inequalities, a second surgery may be necessary to achieve the desired result.

The better you take care of your body, the longer the result will last. Your health, future pregnancies and weight fluctuations will of course also have an effect on the duration of the result.

Tighter skin? Choose BodyTite

The BodyTite tightens the skin up to 45%, with a traditional liposuction this is only 10%!

A BodyTite treatment firms the skin using innovative radiofrequency energy waves, which heat multiple layers of tissue beneath the skin and outer skin. This melts the fat and tightens the skin. The dermis, the deeper part of the skin, is full of collagen and once it reaches the set temperature, the existing collagen fibers are tightened and contracted. This immediately improves the tightness and contour of the skin.

The most common treatment areas are:

– Abdomen
– Arms
– Chest and breasts
– Inner and outer thighs
– Knees
– Buttocks

Recovery after liposuction

How quickly you recover depends on the treated area. In some cases, when suturing the wound, a drain is inserted to remove the wound fluid and blood. This drain can remain in place for several days, depending on the treated area. The length of your hospital stay depends on the duration of the procedure and whether you have been treated under general or local anesthesia. Our care team will give you an estimate in advance and of course, the surgeon will explain the recovery period to you.

After the surgery you will most probably suffer from bruising, swelling and a general feeling of pain for a number of weeks. If you have had a minor surgery, paracetamol is usually enough to cope. If this isn’t enough, the surgeon can prescribe you heavier pain medication.

Your lymphatic vessels can be affected during the liposuction treatment. This will cause the swelling around the treated areas. Do not worry, your body will heal your lymphatic vessels. This process can take about 6 to 12 months. After this period you will not experience any swelling anymore.

You will also temporarily have to wear an elastic corset. This reduces and prevents swelling, keeps the skin in place and gives the treated area the rest it needs to recover successfully. You can make an appointment immediately after the surgery to have the stitches removed. Depending on the surgery, we recommend that you avoid bending or lifting much for the first 6 to 12 weeks. You can start work again after about a week, depending on the type of work you do. Always consult with your doctor first.

Safety through precautionary measures

Once you have decided on liposuction, we will provide you with a patient information document. Please read it carefully. The doctor will provide you, in addition to the general advice, with instructions that are specific to you based on your health and living conditions. The general advice is summarized below.

Before the surgery:

  • Stop smoking four weeks before surgery and do not start again for at least 2 weeks afterwards. Smoking slows wound healing and increases the risk of infection.
  • Should you be taking Marcoumar, Sintrom/Sintrommitis, Asprocardio or similar medication, discuss with your surgeon whether you can temporarily stop using them. This also applies to Aspirin and painkillers with aspirin such as Advil, Diclofenac, etc. During the period around the surgery, you can use painkillers such as Paracetamol and Panadol.
  • Do not take blood thinning medication before surgery.
  • Do not forget to arrange your transport home. You can not drive yourself after the surgery and it is forbidden.
  • Ensure you are not alone for the first few nights after the surgery and that someone is available to help you in your home for the first few days.
  • Don’t forget to give us your measurements and details for the compression garment. We recommend that you buy two pieces of clothing, this is for your own comfort and hygiene.

The day of the surgery:

  • Remove all jewelry, watches and piercings. The clinic is not liable for loss and / or theft.
  • Do not eat or drink anything for the 8 hours before the surgery.
  • Let your “driver” know at what time you can be picked up. The doctor will give you an estimate. You will remain in general at the hospital for a few hours after the surgery and in some cases it is advisable to stay the night.

After the surgery:

  • After the procedure you will be given a piece of clothing that will ensure that the correct pressure is applied to your body so that swelling is reduced and your body remains in the correct shape. Wear your compression garment for as long as the doctor advises. This is on average six weeks.
  • Liposuction is in most cases is a day treatment. Your helper can take you home a few hours after the surgery.
  • Keep in mind that you will not be able to work in the first week after the surgery. If you have physically strenuous work, it may be longer before you can resume work. Always consult your doctor first.
  • Keep moving! Movement helps to reduce swelling and stimulates blood circulation.
  • Sports however are not recommended for the first 6 weeks after surgery.

Risks and complications

There are risks associated with every surgery. Although scarce, it is important to consider the following complications:

  • Poor wound healing.
  • (Temporary) Swelling or hardening of the skin.
  • Asymmetry of the abdomen.
  • (Temporary) numbness of the skin.

Most complications can be avoided by carefully reviewing and applying the pre- and after-care advice.

Our care team is there to support you as you prepare for your intervention, also during the consultation with the surgeon and also guides you after the surgery, so that you know what to expect and heal as well, and as quickly, as possible.

Once you have thought it through and are ready for your journey towards more self-confidence and the body you wish for, make an appointment for a no-obligation consultation. No strings attached! You owe it to yourself!

The personal consultation

The first step towards a body that suits you better, is a consultation with our plastic surgeon. This conversation is of course, entirely free of obligation. The surgeon listens attentively to your wishes and expectations and then examines with you the different options. Each body is unique , therefore it is crucial for the surgeon to see the area you are considering adjusting. Wear comfortable clothing as a physical examination may be necessary.

If you have photos or pictures of your dream body, take them with you to the consultation. The surgeon will be able to give you specific advice and tell you if your expectations are realistic.

The surgeon will also enquire about your health and medical history. Give as accurate information as possible, this is important for your own safety. The surgeon will tell you, in all honesty, if it is wise to perform the desired procedure and will go through it with you. Use this opportunity to ask about any other treatments or wishes you may have.

Feel free to then do some follow-up research via for example the Internet.

Once you have decided which treatments you want, our care team will give you a quote for the treatment costs. It is usually possible to make an appointment for the surgery straight after the consultation. Once that crucial step towards a version of you that makes you feel wonderful is taken, you will receive all the important information.

Of course you don’t have to decide right away. Take time to think about it calmly and in-depth. You deserve it. When you’re ready, our experts will be happy to help you!

Should you have any questions after the consultation, our care team will be delighted to answer them. Feel free to call, email or app us. We are thrilled to be able to guide you on your journey to a more beautiful and fulfilling appearance.

Liposuction abdomen

One of the most popular liposuction procedures is abdominal liposuction.
When you undergo abdominal liposuction, the surgeon first marks the area on your abdomen that needs to be corrected.

During the surgery, incisions are made in inconspicuous places on your abdomen where a fluid is injected which causes the fat to loosen from the skin. The doctor then sucks the fat away, using a small hollow needle. Once the surgeon is satisfied with the result, he sutures the small incisions. The procedure takes an average of 1 to 2.5 hours.

Dermolipectomy [add link] can also be applied to make your stomach even more beautiful. You can get an even more refined result with Liposculpture. Essential Aesthetics is one of the few clinics in the Netherlands that offers this special technique.

You can find more information on the safety of this procedure and the possible risks and complications, in the section: Risks and complications.

Dermolipectomy abdomen

In a dermolipectomy, fat is removed in a different way than in liposuction. In a dermolipectomy, the fat is not sucked away but subcutaneous fat tissue is cut away. The incisions made here are larger than in a liposuction treatment, which leaves larger scars. The surgeon always tries of course to make the incisions in inconspicuous places and sutures the wounds with soluble sutures. This procedure is often combined with liposuction.

Both Dermolipectomy and abdominal liposuction take place under general anesthesia. The length of the surgery depends on the amount of fat removed. When several treatments are performed at the same time, it may take longer. The cost of the surgery is determined by the length of the surgery. The surgeon can often indicate in advance how long the surgery will be.

Liposuction buttocks

This procedure is similar to abdominal liposuction. The same general information applies as abdominal liposuction. The procedure takes round 1 to 2.5 hours and takes place under general anesthesia.

Lymphatic massage

Surgery can interrupt normal lymph flow, causing lymph fluid to build up in a specific area of the body, often in the arms or legs, where it can cause swelling. Therefore, after a liposuction treatment, it is necessary to perform drainage/lymphatic massages.

During a lymphatic massage, our experienced massage therapist uses a series of sliding, pressing and cupping movements over the body. The movements stimulate the lymphatic system without compressing the blood vessels, thereby draining the excess lymphatic fluid from the liposuction.

The massages contribute to a better recovery process and an optimal end result. It ensures that the contours remain tight without irregular moisture accumulation.

Myth: Gaining Weight Before Surgery Will Produce Better Results

While you may have heard of people intentionally gaining weight so that they have more available fat to transfer to their buttocks, we certainly do not recommend this. If you gain weight prior to your Brazilian Butt Lift, you will need to maintain that weight gain post-surgery if you want to keep your results. This is because when we lose weight, we do not lose fat cells in one particular area. Instead, our fat cells all over our bodies actually shrink.

It is best to have this surgery when you have your ideal or preferred body weight because a consistent weight allows your plastic surgeon to best determine the amount of fat that needs to be harvested and injected into your buttocks. In other words, having an extra 10 kilos does not mean you will get better results during the surgery.

If you are interested in the liposuction/lipofilling procedure but feel anxious that you might not have sufficient body fat for a great result, do not attempt to gain excess weight before meeting with your plastic surgeon. Keep in mind that the amount of fat required for a flattering lipofilling result depends on the size of the patient, as it should be proportionate to your body. E.g. smaller women need less fat to reshape their body while larger women need relatively more. Make sure to consult with a professional to determine if your weight is suitable for you to achieve your goals with liposuction/lipofilling.

If you are not an ideal candidate for the procedure, there are other available options, such as butt implants, which can achieve similar and permanent results. We warmly welcome you to visit Essential Aesthetics and to speak with our team of experts, where we will determine which procedure is best suited to your needs and goals.
